  • Diagnosis

The Diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders is based on clinical history and observation; there is no diagnostic test. Check lists are available to aid screening. Other conditions may occur simultaneously; ADHD, anxiety and learning disabilities are frequent.

  • Management

Parent behavior management skills, sensory integration, treatment of co-morbid conditions, behavior plans, educational placement decisions, diet, nutritional supplementation and medication may play a role in the management of children with autistic spectrum disorders.

  • Referrals for services

Speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, psychological testing, wraparound services, laboratory studies may be indicated.

  • Advocacy & Education

Children and adolescents with Asperger's disorder are especially likely to need advocacy as their disability is subtle and often misunderstood. Dr. Gourash is an experienced speaker for parents, educators and health care professionals.
